Now's
the perfect time to

14th. Drop us a line
at dumpthepump@krxy.com.

- I parked my Dodge Dakota and bought a
1998 Honda Civic that gets between 34 and 38 MPG. This
doubles the gas mileage I was getting before so I
literally use half as much gas as before the change. I
commute 46 miles a day and drive to Portland once a month
for work so my gas savings is significant. -- Brent from
Issaquah
- Knowing what prices should be, what they
are, what they used to be and that the oil companies are
at record profits, we do not wish to continue to fill
their pockets. I bought a bicycle and my husband got his
bike down from the attic. -- Kitty from Olympia
- I decided to Dump the Pump when I
moved to Lewis County and realized I would have a 37-mile
commute to work. My first step was to buy a fuel efficient
car. My next step was to start enlisting people I work
with to carpool. This meant changing schedules -- which
also meant getting up earlier. My three co-workers who
live in Chehalis agreed to get up a half-hour earlier and
work a half-hour later each day so we could take advantage
of a schedule which allows us to flex every other Monday.
I’m also fortunate that my agency supports commute trip
reduction efforts and recently started offering incentives
to commuters. Dumping the Pump was one of the best things
I’ve done. I can’t help but smile when I go PAST the
gas station. -- Lynda from Lewis County
- I sold my SUV and bought a Honda Civic and instead
of going home everyday at lunch I bring my lunch to
work. -- Kendra from Shelton
